These are beauty empties I’ve accumulated in the past few months! I’ll aim for monthly Beauty Empties posts from now on to make them short and sweet. For now, bare with me as I take you through this massive empties post!
Thayers Alcohol-Free Toner in Rose Petal Witch Hazel
My skin liked Thayers Alcohol-Free Toner in Rose Petal Witch Hazel. It has organic un-distllled witch hazel as well as rose petal water which are both known to be great skin astringents. It also has aloe vera to soothe the skin. This is gentle enough for sensitive skin. And acts as an effective neutralizing toner for most skin types. The only thing I came to dislike is the scent. At first, it smelled of heavenly rose water. But after using Melvita Damask Rose Floral Water, which by the way, re-defined what heavenly rose water should smell like for me, I no longer found Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel toner scent pleasing. This is probably due to my brain playing bias, but after a while, I felt like Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner smelled of old dirty rose water; rose water that’s been left outside for days in a busy city balcony. Nevertheless, I still finished this bottle because it effectively tones my skin.
Deciem Hylamide Hydra-Density Mist
I really enjoyed this one! The scent is meh. It’s one of those unscented scent that reminds of clean surgical tools at a hospital with some remnant of rose water. The spray nozzle on this Hylamide Hydra-Density Mist is low quality. It sprays out shocking bursts of mists, and when it gets in the eye, it stings! I used this by spraying it into a cotton pad to smooth over my face and neck. The reason why I like this product? It does what it says it will do. It lightly and soothingly hydrates and calms my sensitive skin even at its’ most irritated moments.
SK-II RNA Power Radical New Age Essence
This is a second bottle of SK-II R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Essence I’ve used up since it’s reformulation in late 2015 (released in 2016 for U.S.). I’ve used it as serum as well as a mixture with my foundations. The latter is amazing for making foundations apply smoother and longer lasting, but the trick is to only use couple of drops at the most. I have a full review of this serum and the SK-II R.N.A. Cream HERE.
Deciem White RX Activated Serum
This is an extremely gentle serum that helps to even out skin tone, and in turn, slightly brighten overall skin tone. I noticed some of these benefits only after using this serum twice daily for consistent 4 weeks. And the efforts seem to outweigh the benefits because the benefits were barely noticeable even after 4 weeks. I do like that Deciem White RX Activated Serum is a gentle product that gives longer lasting benefits compared many other brightening serums out there. But it takes too much of the product and too long to show results.
23Years Old Once X Daily Nutrience Pink
23YearsOld released two limited edition essences couple of months ago. I love some of their sheet masks and enjoyed finishing up the Badecasil Cera 3 Cream earlier on this year. So I excitedly picked up one of these limited edition essences! I went with 23YearsOld Once X Daily Nutrience Pink Magnesium EssenceEssence instead of the Nutrience Black Omega Essence (the other limited edition essence) because my skin was super sensitive at the time and I know magnesium can be effective at calming irritated sensitive skin. It did exactly that. I loved it. It didn’t magically erase wrinkles or lighten dark spots but it did an amazing job at bringing my skin back to normal. I finished 23YearsOld Once X Daily Nutrience Pink Magnesium Essence in about 3 weeks by using it nightly 4-5 times a week. It’s only 15ml.
Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum
I’ve seen positive reviews on Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum prior to purchasing it. I had high hopes, but it unfortunately didn’t live up to my expectations. I don’t know if this will actually treat wrinkles with long term use. I couldn’t get pass the heavy oiliness and distinct silicon slip on the skin. It does give a beautifully soft silky finish especially on a mature dehydrated skin. It felt like I was wearing the old school Smashbox foundation primer that’s infused with heavy duty silicon. I stopped using this on the face after several attempts. I used most of this on my neck and legs to finish this bottle.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Light
I love La Roche-Posay Toleriane line of products! I’ve tried Toleriane Ultra in the past but this was my first Toleraine Ultra Light. If you have super sensitive skin and have normal to oily skin or need a lightweight moisturizer for the summer, this it it! It’s paraben-free, fragrance-free, alcohol free, colorant-free, lanolin free, with 0% preservative, and comes in ultra-hermetic (air sealed) packaging. This is something I need to have in my permanent skin care stash.
OM (Officinali di Montauto) Hydroliva Rose Face Hydro-Plus Cream
OM Officinali di Montauto is an Italian organic brand. There is another brand called OM that also produces organic skin care products, but this one is Italian and comes strictly from Tuscany. Officinali di Montauto is a niche brand that is not readily available online and/or in many countries. They use organic medicinal herbs and essential oils that originate in Tuscany region. They produce beautiful products that will organically and effectively treat various skin aliments with a dose of serene aromatherapy. 100% organic Tuscany goodness. No parabens. Officinali di Montauto Hydroliva Rose Face Hydro-Plus Cream (Hydroliva Rosa Viso Idro-Plus) is hydrating and soothing cream that works perfectly as day cream for dry and dehydrated skin during colder months. And also works nicely as night cream for humid summer days regardless of skin type. It gets absorbed into the skin well with a deeply hydrating finish without heaviness.
Belif Peat Miracile Revital Eye Cream & The True Tincture Mask-Chamomile
Belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream gives me tiny bumps around my eyes when I use it for more than 3 days in a row. This happens to me with a lot of eye creams because my eye area is extremely sensitive. When I asked a Belif sales associate about this reaction, she said it happened to someone else she knows, and she believes it’s because this product is too concentrated… I didn’t bother to further investigate further. I had my dad use this for a month and he liked it. It’s deeply moisturizing. That’s about it. After my dad had gone back to Canada, I used what was left on my neck.
Belif The True Tincture Mask – Chamomile is my favourite morning wash off mask. This is the third one I’ve finished so far, and I’ll pick up a new one next time I’m near a Belif store. I reviewed it HERE along with couple of other Belif The True Tincture line products.
Acwell Bubble Free pH Balancing Cleanser
Acwell is a Korean skin care brand that specializes in using refined oriental herbs. Acwell Bubble Free pH Balancing Cleanse is a nonionic weak acid cleanser that worked wonderfully while my skin was acne ridden. This reminded me of the Cetaphil cleanser. Extremely gentle. It’s not great at taking off makeup. It was somewhat decent at melting and lifting makeup when used on dry skin. But it’s best as a second cleanser with water to gently dissolve away daily grimes. I may repurchase this just to have a super gentle Cetaphil-like cleanser in my skin care stash. However, it doesn’t smell great. It smells like freshly peeled scotch tape, like a tub of glue that’s supposed to be unscented but you can still smell it. I don’t love the scent, but strangely, I don’t mind it.
CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is another gentle second cleanser type that I wouldn’t mind having in my permanent skin care stash. This one does everything Acwell Bubble Free pH Balancing Cleanser does, but unlike the Acwell, this one foams up. It’s still gentle enough for acne prone and/or sensitive skin. It can be slightly drying compared to the Acwell cleanser. But unless your skin is extremely dehydrated and sensitive, this won’t really be drying on the skin. If you are in need of an excellent gentle gel type cleanser but you feel like you need that foaming action in your cleanser, this is for you. This has somewhat of an antiseptic scent with hint of tea tree.
Yadah Cosmetic Anti Trouble Bubble Cleanser
I reviewed Yadah Cosmetic Anti Trouble Bubble Cleanser HERE. After finishing the first bottle, I took this second bottle from a friend that wasn’t loving this. I don’t love this either. But it is a decent cleanser for acne prone skin. It’s a good one to not further aggravate acne skin. But I rather buy the Acwell or CosRX cleaners mentioned above than this one. Those clean the skin better.
Nooni Water Blending Lip Oil
I raved about this Nooni Water Blending Lip Oil in my April Beauty Favorites video HERE. It’s the very first product I talk about and probably the one that I was most excited about in the video! I dropped and cracked the lid. The packaging doesn’t look or feel flimsy at all, so I’m shocked how easily it cracked. And I couldn’t get out that little bit of oil that’s left! Seriously, no way to do it. unless I break this tube.
Deciem – The Chemistry Brand Retin-Oil
I professed my love for The Chemistry Brand Retin Oil in my May Beauty Hits & Misses video HERE. I love this oil. I’ve already repurchased. And I also bought one for a friend to share the love. This does everything that it says it will do. All with a fast absorbing dry touch finish and pretty sweet scent. This little bottle is the old packaging. This sub brand of Deciem is no longer called Hand Chemistry. It’s now called The Chemistry brand with slightly updated packaging.
Moonshot Special Treat Body Love
Moonshot Body Love is a lightweight lotion that absorbs easily. It has a light flowery scent that’s very pleasing. I like the sealed pump dispenser, but it pumps out too little of the product. The packaging as well as the product itself feels more like a facial product than a body product.
Bali Alus Frangipani Traditional Spa Essential Scrub
Bali Alus Frangipani Traditional Spa Essential Scrub is a moisturizing body scrub that I brought back from Bali last year. I love the intoxicatingly beautiful scent of Frangipani. This scrub leaves the skin silky, soft, and smooth, with lingering Frangipani scent.
Ryo Green Tea Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo
I thoroughly enjoyed using Ryo Green Tea Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo as well as the conditioner. It feels slightly cooling and minty on the scalp. It felt gentle yet super effective at properly detoxifying my scalp. I didn’t notice significant reduction in hair loss, but my scalp, felt healthier.
Syoss Oil Repair Treatment
Syoss Oil Repair Treatment didn’t do much for my hair. It does temporarily soften my hair which I can feel right after I use this and dry my hair. But the effect was short lived, and my locks still felt day and brittle the next day (even when I tried using this every other day).
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Nettle
My favorite HG dry shampoo is Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. This Klorane Dry Shampoo with Nettle is simply a more intense version of that. I tend to enjoy this one more so in hot summer weather, and the gentler one with oat milk in colder months. I haven’t come across a better dry shampoo than these Klorane ones. But that could be because I’m not very adventurous with trying new dry shampoos…
Etude House Brush Shower Cleaner
I saw couple of positive reviews of Etude House Brush Shower Cleaner before buying it. Those reviewers obviously never tried a decent brush cleaner because this one is awful. This smells very strongly of artificially fragranced cosmetics. This formulation strips the brush bristles and drys out the ends. This cleanser doesn’t rinse off well. The lingering scent of the product remains in the brush bristles even after rinsing and drying. I finished this up by diluting with a lot of water and using it as a pre-soak prior to using other brush cleansers.
Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid & Sephora Solid Brush Cleanser
Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid is my favorite product to wash Beautyblenders, other makeup sponges, as well as synthetic bristled brushes that were used with cream or liquid makeup. I prefer ready to go cleanser products that works fast at cleaning sponges and brushes rather than DIY remedies. Once up on a time, I very much enjoyed and adored DYI brush cleaners; antibacterial dish soap and olive oil was my favorite! But I can’t seem to find the time for those lately. So having one of these solid cleaner is a must for me. These two work exactly the same, but the Sephora brand is $2USD less compared to the Beautyblender product. This is probably my 4th or 5th Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid that I’ve finished. And this Sephora Solid Brush Cleaner is a second one I’ve finished, and I’ve already started on a third one. I want to try the new Beautyblender Blendercleanser Pro!
This is the most interesting and unique beauty related product I’ve tried this year so far! Mangrove Aircell is oxygen spray! Yup, that’s right, this is a can of pure and clean oxygen that you can spry on the skin or even just breathe it in. I won this as a prize at the Korea Cosmo Beauty Expo I attended back in April. And I kept spraying it on the face and into my nostrils and mouth that I emptied it in a day! I strongly believe that clean air makes a huge difference in skin condition. So I’m actually very intrigued by this product and can’t wait till more companies develop something similar!
And that’s it for all the beauty empties of May 2017! Which products interest you the most? Which ones have you tried? Do you feel differently about some of these compared to me?
